Amazon Air Cargo has implemented a Fuel Surcharge (FSC) to address significant increases in jet fuel costs. Fuel surcharges are common practice across the air cargo industry and help to manage volatile fuel expenses while maintaining service quality.

How the Fuel Surcharge Works
Pricing Basis
The FSC is calculated using the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Gulf Coast Kerosene-Type Jet Fuel weekly average price index.
How It Works:
- EIA publishes weekly fuel price averages every Wednesday
- Amazon Air Cargo applies that week’s published average to the upcoming week’s shipments (Sunday - Saturday)
- This provides advance rate visibility so you know your exact charges before shipping
Threshold & Calculation
- Baseline Price: $2.59 per gallon
- Surcharge Trigger: FSC applies when EIA weekly average exceeds $2.59/gallon
- Removal Trigger: FSC removed when EIA weekly average falls below $2.60/gallon
- Calculation Method: Per-shipment surcharge based on fuel price ranges (see table below)
